UN LAUNCHES TREE PLANTING CAMPAIGN IN KUWAIT AS PART OF EFFORTS TO TACKLE CLIMATE CHALLENGES

Kuwait City: The United Nations (UN) has launched a tree planting campaign in Kuwait in collaboration with civil society groups across the country in response to climate change. 


Speaking to reporters yesterday as part of a campaign launched by UN staff in the Mishraf region of Haveli Governorate, the UN Secretary-General’s Resident Representative, Dr. Tariq al-Sheikh Challenges. 

He added that the UN has been particularly focused this year on tackling environmental issues, diverse climate challenges and the changes the world is currently facing.

With the climate summit looming in November, a UN official commented that Kuwait and the UN office in the Gulf country want to launch climate initiatives. 

Growing mainly saplings is considered as an essential component of a sustainable and healthy environment. El Sheikh added that the UN Office has adopted a number of initiatives aimed at motivating young people to engage in initiatives related to energy use, waste management and the fight against desertification.
