In a cyber-attack that also targeted embassies, more than a dozen Ukrainian official websites were down on Friday. Foreign and education ministries, as well as embassies in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Sweden, were among those targeted. Prior to the sites' demise, a message appeared urging Ukrainians to "be prepared for the worst." It was unclear who was responsible for the attack, but a spokeswoman said earlier cyber-attacks had originated in Russia. Russia has yet to respond. However, Ukraine's leadership has come under great pressure from its neighbour, with 100,000 Russian troops stationed near its borders.

The Diia website, a crucial system including government services that holds personal immunisation data and certificates, was one of the sites targeted. Josep Borrell, the European Union's foreign policy leader, said the EU was mobilising all of its capabilities to assist Ukraine in dealing with "this type of cyber-attack." The government stated a number of sites had been suspended to prevent the attack from spreading, while the security service said several had already been restored.
