THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN BOTH VACCINATED AND HAVE SURVIVED A PREVIOUS COVID INFECTION ARE THE MOST PROTECTED: US STUDY

New York: A recent study in two states that compared coronavirus protection from prior infection and immunisation indicated that persons who were both vaccinated and had survived a prior bout had the best protection.

According to the study, which looked at infections in New York and California during summer and fall, unvaccinated patients with a past infection came in second. Those persons had lower diagnoses than vaccinated people who had never been infected by the fall, when the more contagious Delta variety had taken hold but boosters hadn't yet been widely available.

The study comes with significant drawbacks, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which released it on Wednesday. Furthermore, some outside specialists were suspicious of the findings and how they might be interpreted.

"The bottom line message is that symptomatic Covid infection does elicit some immunity," stated University of Pennsylvania immunologist E John Wherry. "However, vaccination is still a much safer way to gain protection than illness."
