3 YEARS IN PRISON FOR DEFAMING THE KUWAITI FLAG

Kuwait City: The Ministry of Interior had previously cautioned against spraying water and hurling water balloons, but sadly, some parents allowed their children to engage in this irresponsible activity, which resulted in quarrels during the national day celebrations.

Major General Faraj Al Zoubi urged parents to educate their children and warn them that such deviant behaviour reflects adversely on festivities, leading to clashes. This type of activity usually leads in injury and impairment to one's vision. He remarked that demonstrating patriotism does not entail spraying water, harming public property, or attacking individuals.

One example of such bad behaviour was when a woman disrespected the national flag by tying it to an animal. The law explicitly specifies that anyone who insults the national flag or the flag of a friendly country, either by destroying or degrading it, faces three years in prison and a fine of not more than KD 250, or both penalties.

Major General Faraj Al Zoubi urged parents to educate and warn their children about such habits, which are alien to Kuwaiti society and are condemned by all because they are offensive to the Kuwaiti people.
