Kuwait City:The number of expats in the country has declined from roughly 2,891,255 in 2018 to 2,520,301 in 2021. According to recent official statistics released by the Central Statistical Bureau, the number of expatriates who got work licences in the government declined by around 11,000 during the time period specified. In 2018, it was 107,657 people, and in 2021, it will be 96,800. This decline is due to the Civil Service Commission's (CSC) implementation of the Kuwaitization strategy, which began in 2017 and is expected to reduce the number to fewer than that as the policy continues.

Domestic workers declined by over 115,700 workers in 2021, to around 591,368 from more than 707,000 in 2018. The drop in numbers is owing to a problem of domestic worker shortages that the country experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as hurdles in the recruitment policies.

The number of expatriates working in the private sector has also decreased, falling to around 1,249,000 in 2021 from 1,531,000 in 2018. In terms of residency violators, statistics show that between 2018 and 2021, the total number of these violators increased by about 51,000. It increased to 151,690 violations in 2021, up from 100,560 in 2018.
