SHANGHAI TIGHTENS COVID LOCKDOWN LIMITATIONS

  • 22/04/2022

As a Covid spike continues in China's financial hub, authorities in Shanghai have warned they will increase implementation of lockdown measures. New steps include installing electronic door alarms to keep infected persons from leaving and evacuating residents to disinfect their homes. Hundreds of people were forcibly evacuated from their homes earlier this week to allow buildings to be sanitised. Shanghai's lockdown will enter its fifth week as a result of the new limitations. All infected patients and close contacts will be sent to a government-run centralised quarantine, according to Shanghai city officials.

In addition, disinfection measures will be escalated in some of the city's worst-hit areas. This will likely mean some residents will be forced to move out temporarily - including those who have tested negative.

The move comes days after people in two other Shanghai communities - Beicai and Pingwang - were ordered to leave their residences for temporary accommodations.
