DUST STORM ; DEMAND FOR WATER IN KUWAIT

  • 18/05/2022

Kuwait City: Following a dust storm in the country yesterday, demand for water has increased dramatically. The consumption rate is estimated to be 20 million gallons higher than the production rate. Water consumption in the country is estimated to be 453 million gallons, according to the Ministry of Power and Water. However, the rate of production is just 433 million per year.

This has compelled the ministry to compensate for the aquifer's shortfall. The increase in water use, according to ministry sources, is related to the enormous volume of water utilised by customers for sanitation purposes. They pointed out that as temperatures rise and dust storms intensify, consumption rates normally climb as well. The dust storm, on the other hand, has cut power use. The power consumption was down by 1250 MW from the day before.
