DESPITE THE SUMMER, WILDFIRES FLARE THROUGHOUT EUROPE

Portugal, France, and Spain all experiencing wildfires due to a heatwave that is sweeping over Europe.

Portugal's 3,500 firefighters are putting out dozens of fires as record-breaking heat spreads across the nation.

Leiria, where 600 people were evicted from their homes, has been the site of the worst incidents.

It brought back memories of the devastating wildfires that occurred in 2017 and took the lives of more than 100 people.

Because to climate change, heatwaves are becoming more common, more intense, and stay longer. Since the start of the industrial age, the planet has warmed by around 1.1 degrees Celsius.
