Kuwait City:  In the past period, the stakeholders of Ethiopian domestic labor recruitment offices have started visiting the country through commercial entry visas to check the labor market and initial closing, domestic labor affairs specialist Bassam Al-Shammari. The visit is to conclude preliminary agreements with regional offices for the recruitment and use of workers. He also said that the move marks a turning point in the Kuwait-Ethiopian MoU, which regulates the recruitment of workers from Ethiopia.

The Ethiopian Embassy in the country is about to open its new headquarters in the Funaites area. This is expected to happen in August. This will pave the way for opening up a new market for recruitment to fill the acute labor shortage that Kuwait is currently experiencing. Many local recruitment offices are waiting for the MoU to be signed between the two sides. Meanwhile, the Philippines has issued a decision to raise the recruitment age of female workers from 23 to 24. He also mentioned that the biggest difficulty facing recruitment at present is the rising cost of airline tickets.

Al-Shammari stressed the need to raise the cost of recruiting such workers, after examining the studies submitted to address the negative effects of the aforementioned decision on the labor market, the continued economic losses suffered by offices and companies in the past. He asked the concerned government agencies to issue a decision allowing domestic workers to move from one employer to another in case of labor dispute between the two parties.
