UNAWARE 'BEACH-GOERS' IN KUWAIT LEAVE A BITTER TASTE IN MOUTH

Kuwait City: Due to the contamination of the marine environment, tonnes of waste left behind by beachgoers in the nation leave a bitter taste in the mouth. Both locals and foreigners enjoy spending time at the beach, but some coastlines have lost their natural features due to the plastic, paper, and aluminium waste that the waves have washed ashore, leaving behind what appears to be large "garbage baskets" here and there.

Despite its best efforts, the Kuwait Municipality was unable to clean the nation's beaches, which are choked by neglect. Along with fishermen, sea-goers and those who sail for fun to escape the bustle of the land and enjoy the tranquilly of the sea are also said to be responsible for a large portion of this waste. The extent of some people's ignorance, which in some way or another contributes to destroying and distorting the beauty of the beaches and sea and endangers swimmers and marine life, is revealed by just one trip to the beaches, whether they are near residential areas or overlook chalets.

The real catastrophe is caused by the fact that many beachgoers bury various waste materials under the sand or scatter them around, especially food scraps, which introduces a new danger to the environment and encourages rodent infestation. Environmental Public Authority inspectors are known to cite violators who clog beaches and coasts with garbage of all kinds at least 2,000 times a year. According to an official source at the Environment Public Authority, the organization's diving teams are investigating cases of littering and coral encroachment close to the islands.
