TURTLES EXPECTED TO RETURN AFTER 120 KM TRAVEL

Kuwait City: Nearly a week after leaving Qaruh Island last Saturday, two sea turtles are said to have travelled more than 120 kilometres south to the territorial waters outside Kuwait, with hopes of returning.


Sheikha Al-Ibrahim, the official spokesperson for the Environment Public Authority and director of the Public Relations and Media Department, told the daily that the authority is working hard to preserve wildlife in accordance with international conventions. She stated that "between 5 and 6 species of sea turtles are currently being monitored in accordance with international agreements."

Hussein Al-Qallaf, the head of the "Senyar" diving team that contributed to this campaign, told  that "tracking devices connected to satellites were installed on two green turtles," noting that the team's role in this campaign was to "transport Turtles to Qaruh Island and photograph them underwater."
