Qatar eliminates health cards for citizens, enables medical access via national ID

Qatar's Ministry of Public Health has eliminated the requirement for citizens to obtain special health cards to access medical services, instead enabling the use of national ID cards for healthcare access. Minister of Public Health Mansour bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud issued Decision No. 46 of 2025, which cancels the 2023 law that previously mandated fees for health card issuance and renewal.

Effective immediately, Qatari citizens can receive free medical services at Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Healthcare Corporation, and all national health centers using their national ID cards. The ministry has clarified that health cards for residents will remain valid under existing procedures, with the changes specifically applying to Qatari nationals.

This simplification initiative aims to reduce administrative burdens, consolidate documentation, and enhance patient experience within Qatar's healthcare system. The ministry has advised citizens to carry their national ID cards when visiting healthcare facilities to ensure uninterrupted service access.
