Qatar to Expand EV Charging Network as Green Mobility Gains Momentum

  • 21/09/2025

Qatar has made significant progress in developing its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, with approximately 200 charging stations now operational across the country. Engineer Mohammed Khalid Al Sharshani, Head of the EV Unit at Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), noted that the Tarsheed Smart EV Charging Program has evolved into a national strategy promoting green mobility and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

The Tarsheed Smart EV Charging App offers EV users real-time information on charging station locations, vehicle compatibility, charging history, and availability. Active chargers are marked in green, busy ones in orange, and inactive stations in gray. Currently, most charging stations are concentrated in Doha and northern regions, with plans to extend facilities to the western and northwestern areas in upcoming phases.

The expansion aligns with Qatar National Vision 2030, aiming to foster environmental sustainability and encourage the adoption of electric vehicles. With a growing number of electric and hybrid vehicles on the roads, authorities believe that enhancing the charging infrastructure will boost consumer confidence, reduce carbon emissions, and improve urban air quality.
