PAKISTAN FLOODS : OFFICIALS FIGHT TO PREVENT BIGGEST LAKE FROM OVERFLOWING

  • 06/09/2022

Following the failure of last-ditch efforts to lower water levels, Pakistani authorities are battling to prevent their largest lake from overflowing its banks.

In Sindh province, Manchar Lake is dangerously full following record-breaking monsoons that submerged a third of Pakistan.

Over 100,000 people have been displaced as a result of three bank breaches around the lake that were made to protect areas downriver.

However, it still has the potential to overflow, and rescue workers are rushing to save as many more people as possible from drowning.

According to Pakistan's National Disaster Management Agency, floods in the country have killed at least 1,314, including 458 children, and have affected 33 million people.
