BRITAIN IS CONCERNED ABOUT TURKEY SHORTAGE NEXT CHRISTMAS DUE TO BIRD FLU

There are fears of a shortage of turkeys next Christmas, after three million birds were culled in the United Kingdom after an outbreak of bird flu on farms across the country.

Special protection areas have been set up in Norfolk, Suffolk, parts of Essex, and all over southwest England, in an attempt to stop the spread of the disease. And the head of the Council of the Poultry Association in Britain, James Muttershid, revealed that the outbreak of the disease may cause a "massacre" of birds during the festive period.

"If a bird flu is transmitted to turkeys, it could cause a massacre and lead to real supply chain problems in the lead-up to Christmas," James Mutchered told . He added that farms affected by the disease and classified as infected may have to stop raising birds for up to a year.

The Ministry of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said officials were working to "eradicate the disease as soon as possible."
