Argentina's soccer association is celebrating the return of a national hero's jersey from one of the nation's greatest football victories.

The jersey that Diego Maradona wore in the 1986 FIFA World Cup final has been returned to Argentina, according to a statement made by the Asociación del Ftbol Argentina (AFA) on Wednesday, October 19. They thanked former German national team player Lothar Matthäus in a video they shared on Twitter.

The friendship between Maradona and Matthäus is described in the video. Over the years, the two players frequently found themselves on opposing sides of club and national team matches, including the 1986 and 1990 World Cup finals, in which Argentina defeated West Germany and West Germany defeated Argentina, respectively.

Maradona’s “Hand of God” shirt, which he wore when he scored two of the most famous goals in soccer history against England in the 1986 World Cup quarter-finals, sold for a then-record 7.14 million pounds ($8.01 million) at an auction in May.

That shirt is on loan to the Sports Museum in Qatar which is hosting this year’s World Cup starting on November 20.
