LARGE RALLY IN BERLIN IN SIPPORT OF IRANIAN PROTESTS

According to German police, 80,000 Iranians and their supporters marched in Berlin in support of the ongoing demonstrations in Iran.

The Iranian diaspora's rally on Saturday in the German capital is thought to have been the largest one to date.

Iranians from all over Europe chanted the protesters' catchphrase, "Women, Life, and Liberty!"

Protests that were started in Iran due to the death of a young woman in custody are now in their sixth week. After being detained by Tehran's morality police on September 13 for allegedly donning her headscarf too loosely, Mahsa Amini, 22, passed away.

Police claimed she had a heart attack and refuted claims that she had been struck in the head with a baton.

Several global capitals, including Washington, where thousands have been marching, held gatherings on Saturday.

The number of protesters at the Berlin rally was estimated by the organisers to be closer to 100,000. Their demands included more Western sanctions against Iran's powerful Revolutionary Guard.

Iranian diplomats, the protesters said, should be thrown out of Western capitals.
