A notorious international fraudster who boasted about his "crime-funded lifestyle" on Instagram by wearing designer clothing and driving a flashy car was given a sentence of more than 11 years in prison.

According to the US Department of Justice, Ramon Abbas, who went by the online alias Ray Hushpuppi, was sentenced in Los Angeles after planning to launder tens of millions of dollars through a series of online scams, including one in the UK.

Numerous victims, including an unnamed professional football club in the UK, a law firm in New York, and a bank in Malta, were the 40-year-old Nigerian national.

Abbas engaged in a scheme to launder more than $300 million (£261 million) over the course of 18 months, according to his own admission. After being detained in Dubai in June 2020, he entered a guilty plea in April 2021.
