Employees who have served for less than 15 years are given a yearly leave allowance of 35 days, but they can only carry forward a maximum of 175 days. Any additional days will be forfeited at the start of the new calendar year in 2024. Conversely, employees who have served for 15 years or more are entitled to 45 days of leave per year, with a maximum balance of 225 days. Any surplus exceeding this limit will also be forfeited at the commencement of the new calendar year in 2024.
It was stressed that the extraordinary choice to freeze leave for the years 2020/2021, allowing staff members to benefit the balance of up to 6 years on top of the present year, was taken in light of the unprecedented circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
