Hefty fines for smoking on flights

  • 03/12/2024

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a serious admonition to licensed air operators concerning breaches of Kuwait's Environmental Protection Law No. 42/2014 and its subsequent amendments, specifically the prohibition of smoking in public transportation. The DGCA underscored that failure to adhere to these regulations may lead to fines ranging from KD 50,000 to KD 200,000, in addition to stringent legal repercussions.

This notice comes in response to reports of smoking occurrences involving both flight crew and passengers during flights, which violate Article 56 that forbids smoking in public transportation, as well as Article 138, which stipulates substantial penalties for such infractions.
