Doha: The Al-Ajari Scientific Center has announced that the moderate spring “Kenna” season will end on Tuesday, April 29, and the transitional period into summer will begin. Known locally as Kenna, this season lasts exactly 39 days and is divided into three consecutive 13-day phases—Al-Rasha (also called Batn Al-Hut), Al-Shartayn, and Al-Batina.
With Kenna’s onset, observers can expect rapidly intensifying sunlight, a noticeable rise in temperatures, and a general feeling of atmospheric stress. Winds pick up more dust and dirt, leading to poorer visibility and a pronounced dry spell across the region. Birds commence their seasonal migration at the start of this period, while daytime heat peaks midway through.
Historically, the concluding days of the spring “Sarayat” season may still bring sudden showers accompanied by thunder, lightning, or hail. After this, the skies clear and dust settles until mid-season, when the Pleiades star cluster disappears from view—only to reappear around June 7, marking the end of Kenna.
Residents are advised to prepare for rising daytime temperatures, increased airborne dust, and drier conditions extending through the end of the 39-day season. Increased wind activity during Al-Rasha and Al-Shartayn phases may further reduce visibility in open areas.
