Gulf States to Review Regional Radiation Emergency Plan Next Monday

Kuwait: An official letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that representatives from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states will convene on Monday, June 30, to discuss the region’s radiation emergency preparedness plan and its implications for security and public safety.

According to the letter obtained by Al-Qabas, the meeting aims to assess the GCC’s regional response framework for radiological emergencies, originally formulated by the GCC Emergency Management Center on January 24, 2016. The discussions come amid broader concerns about events affecting the stability and safety of Gulf nations and their populations.

In preparation for the meeting, the Foreign Ministry has requested Kuwait University to review the plan and submit its feedback and recommendations within three days. The university's expert insights will contribute to evaluating and possibly updating the regional response strategy ahead of the high-level talks.

The initiative reflects a proactive step by GCC states to enhance coordination, emergency readiness, and cross-border safety protocols in the face of potential radiological threats.
