Kuwait's Jaber Hospital Sets Record with 30 Kidney Transplants in a Month

  • 03/09/2025

In a significant advancement for Kuwait's healthcare sector, the Ministry of Health announced that Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital successfully performed 30 kidney transplants during August 2025. This figure substantially surpasses the hospital’s typical monthly average of around 17 procedures, demonstrating a notable expansion in the capacity to deliver complex and critical medical services. The achievement underscores the health system's growing proficiency and efficiency in the specialized field of organ transplantation.

This milestone is the result of coordinated efforts among several key national medical institutions, including the Organ Transplant Department at Jaber Hospital, the Kuwait Center for Kidney Diseases and Transplantation, and the Organ Provision Program. The success was also made possible through the collaboration of diverse medical and technical teams, encompassing transplant surgeons, nursing staff, anesthesiology, intensive care units, and laboratory services, all working within a multidisciplinary framework.

The record-breaking performance builds upon strategic health initiatives introduced in recent years by Health Minister Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi. These include the establishment of the Organ Transplant Department in March 2024, the inauguration of the Kuwait Center for Kidney Diseases and Transplantation in June 2024, and the launch of the National Kidney Transplant Program later that year. These foundational steps have catalyzed a qualitative shift in transplant services, culminating in a record 149 successful kidney transplants in 2024 and the latest achievement of 30 transplants in a single month.
