KUWAIT CITY: Due to the emergence of highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1, the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) has issued a decision banning the import of all types of live birds, hatching eggs, one-dayold chicks, and broiler chickens from the French Republic and the Republic of Iran, reports Al-Qabas daily. Talal Al-Daihani, a spokesman for the PAAAFR, said the decision was based on the World Organization for Animal Health's recommendations as well as the authority's desire to take preventive steps and adhere to the highest levels of safety and security for birds imported from other countries. After Jordan was shown to be clear of any associated disease, Al-Daihani declared that the ban on importing live ruminant animals from Jordan had been lifted.
