Kuwait City: According to criteria established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), Kuwait International Airport's compliance with international civil aviation safety standards exceeded 77.45 percent in 2022, exceeding the global average of 69.54 percent, a representative said on Tuesday.

According to Duaij Al-Otaibi, Deputy Director General of Aviation Safety, Air Transport, and Aviation Security at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), compliance with the ICAO's civil aviation safety criteria is roughly 76 percent in the Middle East, compared to the international average of 69.54 percent. The ICAO "has no comments on Kuwait International Airport," he said, adding that Kuwait's ranking "is excellent." He also said that once Terminal Two (T2), which will be outfitted with the most advanced security technology, is finished, security measures at Kuwait Airport would be improved.

He pointed out that the DGCA and Ministry of Interior had installed security measures that complied with international standards, encouraging airlines to fly to Kuwait. In addition to routinely inspecting local carriers, the DGCA is inspecting incoming and departing aircraft in accordance with Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft (SAFA), he said.
