CHANGE IN GRACE PERIOD, EXTENSION OF NON-RESIDENTS STAY WITHOUT PENALTY AFTER VISA EXPIRATION

Abu Dhabi: As part of the visa reforms that came into effect in the UAE last month, the grace period has also changed. According to this, even if the visa expires or the visa is cancelled, there is a difference in the period of stay in the UAE. The earlier grace period of 30 days has been increased from 60 days to 180 days in most categories.


Expatriates must leave the country or obtain a new visa before the end of the grace period if their visa is revoked. Typing centers and customer care section of the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship and the Customs and Port Security section inform that the decision to increase the grace period for various category visas has come into effect. After the new law comes into effect, the grace period for various visas is as follows

Golden visa holders, family members of golden visa holders, green visa holders, family members of green visa holders, widows, divorcees, students who have completed their studies, skilled professionals at levels 1 and 2 according to the list of UAE Ministry of Human Resource Naturalization, etc. will get a grace period of 180 days even if the visa expires.

The grace period will be 90 days for Skilled Professionals and Property Owners at level 3 according to the list of UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Naturalization. A grace period of 60 days is available for regular expats and 30 days for other categories. While some professionals are allowed a grace period of 180 days, their family members get a grace period of only 60 days.
