China's marriage registrations slump to record low

Marriages in China reached the lowest level in 2022, continuing a steady decline over the previous ten years, local news outlet Yicai reported on Sunday. According to the data released on the website of the Ministry of Civil Affairs on Friday, only 6.83 million couples married in previous year. The decrease occurs as China's government struggles to deal with a declining birth rate and a shrinking population.
