A 2,300-year-old archaeological discovery

The National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters announced Sunday the discovery of a courtyard and a building west of the Al-Qurainiya site on Failaka Island, dating back to the Hellenistic period, 2,300 years ago.


Acting Assistant Secretary-General of the Council for Antiquities and Museums Sector, Mohammed bin Redha, told the Kuwait News Agency that the Kuwaiti-Italian archaeological mission team made this discovery during its work at the Al-Qurainiya site, which is a settlement dating back to multiple periods extending from before Islam to the early and late Islamic periods in the north of Failaka Island, which overlooks the sea coast directly.
