UAE Ramadan Initiative: 200 Volunteers Serve 14,000 Iftar Meals Daily to Workers

Model Service Society (MSS), a non-profit organization licensed by the Community Development Authority (CDA), has been providing iftar meals to thousands of workers in Dubai for 19 years. The initiative, which began in 2006 with just 100 meals, now serves 14,000 meals daily across nine different locations. Volunteers from diverse backgrounds, including entrepreneurs, professionals, and laborers, come together each evening to prepare and distribute hot meals, fostering a strong sense of community and compassion during the holy month.

This year, MSS aims to distribute 500,000 meals, surpassing last year's count of 400,000. The initiative has garnered increasing support from sponsors and volunteers, with many bringing their families to instill values of generosity in their children. Meals are freshly prepared by 10 carefully selected public kitchens to maintain hygiene and quality. Workers receive a nutritious meal, including biryani, laban, water, dates, and fruit, ensuring a fulfilling iftar experience.

Beyond providing food, MSS actively collaborates with multinational companies and aligns with the UAE government's ‘Year of Community’ initiative. Volunteers, including students, can earn hours contributing toward a golden visa. Registration for new volunteers is now open on the CDA website, expanding outreach beyond traditional word-of-mouth efforts. For many, including families like that of longtime volunteer Ameera Hassan, participating in this initiative has become a cherished Ramadan tradition, reinforcing the power of community and service.
