The Permanent Delegation of Kuwait in Geneva has highlighted the country's remarkable progress in combating HIV/AIDS, as recognized in United Nations reports. Speaking at the 58th session of the Human Rights Council, Diplomatic Attaché Sarah Al-Hasawi emphasized that Kuwait has expanded free and confidential testing and improved preventive treatment both before and after exposure.

Kuwait has become a regional leader in achieving the 90-90-90 global health target, ensuring that 90% of people with HIV know their status, 90% of diagnosed individuals receive treatment, and 90% of treated patients have undetectable viral loads. The country is now working toward the next 95-95-95 goal under its national AIDS strategy.

In a progressive step, Kuwait has allowed HIV-positive individuals to work in non-risk jobs, promoting social integration. It has also implemented premarital screenings and nationwide awareness campaigns in schools and universities to reduce stigma and encourage voluntary testing.

Internationally, Kuwait has been a consistent contributor to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, donating $27 million over the past 20 years to support global access to treatment and the goal of eliminating AIDS by 2030.

Al-Hasawi reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to the right to health as a fundamental human right, emphasizing the need for a discrimination-free approach that preserves dignity, privacy, and promotes a comprehensive global response to AIDS.
