Bahrain Urges 470,265 Expatriates to Verify Social Insurance Registration for Benefits

The Bahraini government has issued an urgent call to the country's 470,265 expatriate workers, advising them to contact their employers to ensure they are properly registered with the Social Insurance Organisation (SIO). This directive was emphasized during an online workshop titled 'End of Service Benefit System for Non-Bahrainis,' which aimed to educate foreign workers about their rights to an end-of-service gratuity. The initiative ensures that expatriates will receive their legally mandated compensation upon the conclusion of their employment.

According to the SIO, the new system covers all non-Bahraini private sector employees, with the exception of GCC nationals who fall under a different insurance law. Employers are legally obligated to make full monthly contributions to the fund and must regularly update the SIO with any changes to an employee's total wage, which includes allowances, bonuses, and commissions. This system is designed to protect workers' financial rights and provide a secure payout at the end of their service.

The latest SIO data from the second quarter of this year highlights the scale of the program, showing that expatriates make up a significant majority of the workforce, outnumbering Bahraini citizens by approximately three to one. This makes the proper implementation of the benefit system crucial for the vast expatriate community, ensuring their contributions are tracked and their end-of-service payments are guaranteed.
