Ottawa : Toronto writer and poet Souvankham Thammavongsa has won the 2020 Scotiabank Giller Prize.She won the Giller Prize for her short story collection 'How to Pronounce Knife' which is writer's first work of fiction. She was announced as the winner on Monday night during a virtual awards ceremony hosted by actor Eric McCormack and musical guest Diana Krall. She added that "Thirty six years ago I went to school and I pronounced the word knife wrong and I didn't get a prize. But tonight there is one." Thammavongsa has earned acclaim for her four poetry books. The jury panel for this year consisted of Canadian authors David Chariandy, Eden Robinson and Mark Sakamoto, British editor and critic Claire Armitstead and Canadian-British Journalist Tom Rachman.The Giller Prize which is Canada's richest was found in 1994 by businessman Jack Rabinovitch.
