PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODI INVITES POPE FRANCIS TO VISIT INDIA

Rome: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Pope Francis to visit India. Foreign Ministry sources said. The Prime Minister invited the Pope to visit India during an hour-and-a-half discussion at the Vatican. After the visit of Pope John Paul II to India in 1999, a pope is now preparing to visit India.


During a meeting between Modi and Mar Papa at the Papal House library at 12 noon today, issues such as Covid 19 and climate change were reportedly discussed. Further details of the discussion will be made clear by the Foreign Secretary at a press conference later.

Modi is in Italy to attend the 16th G20 summit. After meeting with the pope, he will attend the first meeting of the G20 summit. The theme of the meeting is 'Global Economy and Global Health'. He will then hold talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

During his visit to Italy, Modi met with EU Councilor Charles Michel, European Commission President Ursula von Der Lane and Italian Prime Minister Mario Daragi. The Prime Minister's first official address was on trade, investment relations, climate change, Covid, national and global development. The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted that the leaders shared ideas about warming human and economic ties to create a better land. 

The Prime Minister arrived at the Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Rome on Friday morning for a three-day visit. Received by senior officials of the Italian Government and the Indian Ambassador to Italy. This is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Rome in 12 years.

After the G-20 summit, the Prime Minister will leave Rome on Sunday for Glasgow, Scotland. There he will attend the 26th Climate Summit. During the summit, he will meet with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
