SIERRA LEONE EXPLOSION, ATLEAST 99 PEOPLE DIED

At least 99 people have died after a massive explosion when a fuel tanker collided with a lorry in Sierra Leone's capital, Freetown.

Fuel spilled prior to touching off and the subsequent fiery blaze inundated spectators and vehicles at a bustling intersection. 

Film broadcast by nearby news sources showed severely burned bodies in the roads encompassing the big hauler. 

President Julius Maada Bio said he was "profoundly upset by the disastrous flames and the horrible death toll". 

In a tweet, he said his administration would do "everything to help the impacted families". 

Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr portrayed seeing "nerve racking" photographs and said there were "reports that in excess of 100 individuals have lost their lives".
