30 MILLION DIABETICS ARE UNABLE TO OBTAIN THE INSULIN THEY REQUIRE

Geneva: The World Health Organization reported on Friday that the number of diabetics is increasing, despite the fact that tens of millions of people are unable to obtain the insulin they require.

The UN health agency emphasised the importance of lowering prices and dramatically increasing access to life-saving medicine.

Diabetes now affects more than 420 million people worldwide, a figure that has nearly quadrupled in the last four decades.

According to WHO, that number is expected to exceed half a billion by the end of this decade.
Despite an abundant supply, however, high prices make it difficult for many diabetics to obtain the insulin they require to manage their condition.

Diabetes is on the rise in low-income countries, which now account for 80% of cases, but insulin consumption in those countries is lagging due to a variety of barriers.
