COVID 19: EIGHT ZOO BIG CATS TEST POSITIVE AND COUGH

  • 13/11/2021

Eight big cats in a zoo in the United States have tested positive for coronavirus, just days after a pet dog in the United Kingdom tested positive for Covid-19.
According to The Hill, the infected cats include two African lions, two snow leopards, an Amur tiger, a puma, and two jaguars. Although some of these animals had a cough and nasal discharge, their symptoms were mild.

Aside from them, none of the St. Louis Zoo's 12,000 animals have tested positive, according to the local newspaper. The source of the infection among the cats has not been identified by staff.

The zoo has been vaccinating its animals with an animal-specific vaccine against the disease that has wreaked havoc on the global human population for more than a month, according to The Hill.

The risk of animals spreading the coronavirus to humans is low, according to the CDC, but people have been documented spreading the virus to animals all over the world, according to The Hill.
