FIVE DEATHS REPORTED IN RECENT SUDAN COUP PROTESTS

According to the Sudanese Doctors Central Committee, five demonstrators were killed in pro-democracy protests in Sudan on Saturday.

According to the group, four protesters died as a result of gunshot wounds and a fifth as a result of choking on tear gas during clashes with security forces.

Tens of thousands of people took to the streets in cities and towns across the country to protest the coup.Police denied using live wounds and claimed they only used "minimal force."

According to state television, 39 police officers were "severely injured" during the clashes.

The deadly violence comes just days after the formation of a military-led ruling council.
