DEFORESTATION IN AMAZON IS AT ITS WORST IN 15 YEARS

  • 21/11/2021

Official data show that deforestation in Brazil's Amazon rainforest has reached its highest level in over 15 years.

According to a report by Brazil's space research agency (Inpe), deforestation increased by 22% in a year.

During the COP26 climate summit, Brazil was one of several countries that pledged to end and reverse deforestation by 2030.

The Amazon is home to approximately three million plant and animal species, as well as one million indigenous people.

It is an important carbon store that slows the rate of global warming.
