SWEDEN'S FIRST FEMALE PRIME MINISTER RESIGNS HOURS AFTER APPOINTMENT

  • 25/11/2021

Just hours after being appointed, Sweden's first female prime minister resigned.

Magdalena Andersson was named leader on Wednesday but resigned after her coalition partner resigned and her budget failed to pass. Instead, parliament approved a budget drafted by the opposition, which includes the far right's anti-immigrant stance.

The government's own budget proposal was rejected in favor of one presented by the opposition that includes the right-wing populist Sweden Democrats. Sweden's third-largest party is rooted in a neo-Nazi movement. The vote was 154-143 in favor of the opposition's budget proposal.
