DOZENS OF PASSENGERS ON SA-NETHERLANDS FLIGHTS TESTED POSITIVE

According to Dutch officials, 61 people who arrived in Amsterdam on two flights from South Africa tested positive for Covid-19.

They have been isolated in a hotel near Schiphol Airport. They were among 600 passengers who were detained for several hours after their arrival while they were tested for the virus. The Dutch authorities are conducting additional testing to see if there are any cases of Omicron, which was named as a variant of concern by the WHO on Friday.

On November 24, the variant was first reported to the World Health Organization in South Africa.

Many countries around the world have restricted travel from the southern African region in the last few hours. Meanwhile, the Netherlands is one of several European countries grappling with record-breaking infection rates.

On Sunday, a partial lockdown will be extended, with all hospitality and cultural venues forced to close between 17:00 and 05:00 until at least December 19th.
