FOREIGNERS WILL BE BARRED FROM ENTERING ISRAEL DUE TO NEW VARIANT

Israel will ban foreigners from entering the country for 14 days and will use surveillance to halt the spread of the new Covid variant.

Following full cabinet approval, the ban is expected to go into effect at midnight on Sunday. So far, Israel has confirmed one case of the potentially more infectious Omicron variant, which was discovered in South Africa. Since then, many countries have prohibited travel to South Africa and its neighbours.

The Israeli coronavirus cabinet agreed a series of new restrictions at a crisis meeting late on Saturday and are subject to final approval by the larger cabinet.
