Fears about the Omicron coronavirus variant's impact have grown since the first case was reported in the United States, and the Japanese central bank has warned of economic pain as countries tighten containment measures. A fully vaccinated California resident returned from South Africa on November 22 and tested positive seven days later. President Joe Biden is developing the United States' strategy for combating COVID-19 this winter, and sources briefed on the matter say one step will be to extend the requirement for travellers to wear masks until the middle of March. In addition, the White House intends to announce stricter testing requirements for international visitors.
