Beijing: According to official media, at least 14 people were killed in a landslide at a construction site in southwest China's Guizhou province on Tuesday.

On Monday evening, workers were strengthening a slope when the avalanche occurred. Rescuers discovered 14 deaths and three injured people, with the reason of the catastrophe "still being investigated."

Construction and industrial accidents are widespread in China, and are generally the result of low safety standards. Two miners were killed and twenty others were rescued from a flooded coal mine in Shanxi province in December. In July, 14 employees were killed in Guangdong province, south China, when a tunnel they were constructing flooded.
