The victim of Sydney's first deadly shark attack in nearly 60 years has been identified as a 35-year-old British man. Simon Nellist was killed in the attack on Wednesday, according to a friend. The victim has yet to be named by police, and his family has remained silent.

After Wednesday's assault, Australian officials are still looking for the great white shark, with swimmers banned from the water and most city beaches closed. A great white shark mauled Mr Nellist, a diving instructor, close off the coast of Little Bay in east Sydney. He was a regular swimmer at the beach and a member of the city's Scuba Diving Social Club.
