UKRAINE CONFLICT, RUSSIA ANNOUNCES A SPECIAL MILTARY OPERATIONS IN DONBAS

President Vladimir Putin of Russia has initiated a "special military operation" in Ukraine's eastern Donbas area. In a televised address, he encouraged Ukrainian forces fighting Russian-backed separatists to lay down their arms and return home. Mr Putin stated that Russia does not intend to conquer Ukraine, but warned that if anyone attempts to challenge Russia, Moscow will respond "instantly."

According to Ukraine, "Putin started a full-scale invasion of Ukraine." Dmytro Kuleba, Ukraine's Foreign Minister, remarked in a tweet: "Strikes have broken out in peaceful Ukrainian cities. This is an aggressive war. Ukraine will defend itself and come out on top. Putin can and must be stopped. The time has come to act."Ukraine's Western allies have already warned Russia that it was preparing to invade. There have been reports of explosions in various Ukrainian locations, as well as gunshots near the main Boryspil airport in Kyiv.
