ADANI GROUP SECURES ELECTRICITY PROJECTS IN SRI LANKA FOLLOWING ACQUISITION OF PORT FACILITY

Adani Group of India has signed a deal for two massive power projects in Sri Lanka's Northern Province, just six months after securing a critical port terminal project in Colombo, which it is now executing with majority stakes.

There has been no official announcement or statement from the Sri Lankan side, the Adani Group, or Indian authorities on the agreement to jointly execute renewable power projects in Mannar, on Sri Lanka's northwestern coast, and Pooneryn, just south of Jaffna Peninsula, raising concerns in some quarters about the apparent lack of transparency in an international agreement. "The CEB also inked a Memorandum of Understanding with India's Adani Green Energy Ltd," according to the report.

The agreement was signed on Friday, the same day that India's National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) agreed to establish a 100 MW solar power project at Sampur, in the eastern Trincomalee district.
