THE KUWAITI AMIR EXPRESSES HIS CONDOLENCES ON THE LOSS OF UAE PRESIDENT - THE FLAG IS FLOWN AT HALF MAST FOR 40 DAYS

Kuwait City: His Royal Highness The Amir, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, expressed heartfelt condolences for the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), saying Arab and Islamic nations had lost "a great leader" who dedicated his life to serving his people and defending Arab and Islamic causes. In cables of condolences to UAE Vice-President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammad bin Rahsed Al-Maktoum, and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, their families, and the people of the UAE, His Highness the Amir expressed the deepest condolences on behalf of the Kuwaiti government and people. 


"We shall always remember his noble positions towards the (Kuwaiti) just causes during the Iraqi invasion," stated His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, who expressed his sorrow over Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed's death. He prayed to Allah Almighty to bring comfort to the UAE people and praised the development that occurred under the deceased's reign, which aided the nation's advancement. Starting today, May 13, His Highness the Amir announced a 40-day mourning period, half-mast flags, and three days off work for government departments.

His Majesty Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Deputy Amir, issued condolence cables to Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashed and Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed upon the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed. His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince offered his condolences to the Emirati people, calling the dead as a "great leader" who fought for Arab and Islamic principles. His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince also hailed Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed's "honourable" stance in support of Kuwait's just reasons during the Iraqi invasion, as well as his contribution to the UAE's development. Similar cables were sent by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. 

His Majesty Following the death of President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan on Friday, the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah declared a 40-day mourning period with flags flown at half-mast and government departments closing for three days. In the wake of the death of Sheikh Khalifa, whom he characterised as a "great leader" who dedicated his life to serving his people and defending Arab and Islamic interests, His Highness the Amir ordered a period of mourning in solidarity and sympathy with the UAE and its people. 

Marzouq Al-Ghanim, the Speaker of the Kuwaiti National Assembly (parliament), wrote a cable to his Emirati counterpart Saqr Ghabash on Friday, expressing genuine and heartfelt condolences over the death of UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahyan. The speaker asked to Allah Almighty to bestow much kindness on the deceased's soul and to grant his family and the UAE people more patience in the hereafter. Al-Ghanim paid respect to the late UAE president, describing him as a man who dedicated his life to serving and growing his country, and pledging combined Gulf action. The UAE Ministry of Presidential Affairs confirmed President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-death Nahyan's and a 40-day national mourning period earlier today.
