KIM JONG-UN CALLS THE COVID OUTBREAK A "HUGE CALAMITY"

The fast expanding Covid-19 epidemic in North Korea, according to official media, is a "grave tragedy" for the country. During an emergency meeting on Saturday, Mr Kim urged for an all-out assault against the virus's spread.

It comes after officials revealed the first verified cases on Thursday, despite the fact that specialists believe the virus has been circulating for some time. A significant epidemic might have disastrous effects in North Korea, according to experts.

Its 25 million population is vulnerable because to a lack of a vaccination programme and an inadequate healthcare system.

And on Saturday, state media reported that there had been half a million cases of unexplained fever in recent weeks. The country has limited testing capabilities so most Covid cases are not confirmed.
