URUGUAY AND BRAZIL ARE BEING BATTERED BY CYCLONE YAKECAN

  • 18/05/2022

Strong gusts and huge seas battered Uruguay when a subtropical cyclone passed across the South American country.

In the capital, Montevideo, a 23-year-old man was killed when a tree fell on his house during gusts of 98 km/h (61 mph).

The waves had thrown up foam on the seaside roads.

After wreaking havoc in Uruguay, Cyclone Yakecan made its way north to Brazil, causing extensive power outages.

In Uruguay, Yakecan, which means "heaven's song" in Guaran, sparked an orange warning, the second highest level.
