BEER BOTTLE SHORTAGE IN GERMANY ; INDUSTRY WARNS OF "TENSE" SITUATION

Due to growing production costs and a shortage of lorry drivers, German breweries are warning that beer bottles may be in limited supply this summer.

The situation is "very tense," according to the German Brewers' Federation's senior executive.

According to an industry expert, the lack of glass bottles will primarily affect small and medium-sized breweries.

Brewers are paying an average of 80% more for new glass bottles than they were a year ago. Beer prices are also rising.

A glass industry official told Bild that one of the reasons for the scarcity is a rise in energy rates, which is driving the price of glass bottle production to rise.

Furthermore, according to Holger Eichele of the German Brewers' Federation, a shortage of lorry drivers is causing problems.
